The Charltons :: Vows Renewal

Last year my good friend and photographer extraordinaire Mandy Charlton announced that she would be renewing her vows with Paul, her husband of 10 years, which was exciting news… It got even better when she asked myself, James Burns and Jamie Emerson if we would photograph the whole day.  We all jumped at the chance, especially as Mandy told us that we had free rein to shoot on the day, cue lots of plotting and planning between us.

After a night out with Mandy & Paul, where they met yet another of our photography friends we soon added Mark Scholey to the photography pot.  Now 4 photographers strong, all with different styles, ideas and kit options, we knew there would be a whole load of creative juices flowing.  We knew it would be vintage themed, and that Mandy wanted to shoot in a couple of locations in and around Newcastle, we were all excited.

The day started with bacon and sausage butties served up by the generous Café Burns, we then split off with Jamie & Mark heading over to meet Paul, whilst James & I met up with Mandy at her hotel where she was excitedly getting ready with the girls.

I took a lot of inspiration from many photographers and their style throughout the day, so thank you to all those who are an inspiration to me.

I’ll apologise now as it’s fairly image heavy post… Enjoy!

The girls getting ready, I was told they aren’t always this girly.

The Twitter inspired vintage necklace that Mandy found was gorgeous.

The day wasn’t completely fuelled by Champagne & Calpol, but it might have started out that way…

The love was there for all to see when Mandy & Paul were together at the Vows Renewal

Iain had a cool retro Dr Who style suit, and the obligatory cool Converse sneakers.

Part 1: Paul’s fun nature shining through on the day.

Part 3: Paul’s fun nature shining through on the day.

More love on the day.

This summed up the rest of the night along with the dancing…

Thanks once again to Paul & Mandy for asking me to be a guest and also for the privilege of capturing the day, here’s to the next 10 years.

Laura & Gregor :: Glasgow University Cathedral

During last year, my travels had me visiting Glasgow to meet up with several other photographers, whilst there I was invited by Duncan & Angela of Pics&Blooms to shoot alongside them at a wedding.  I was told little about the venue until we arrived… At Glasgow University Cathedral!

Wow, what can I say.  It is simply a beautiful building with a tremendous amount of history.  I felt honoured to be able to shoot there, and with two great friends and a fantastic couple, Laura and Gregor.

Emma & Rob :: Sandon Hall

Following on from previous blog posts, this is another from 2009.  I was invited to shoot with Gill Taylor at Emma & Rob’s wedding.  The couple had the chosen a small family church in Milwich, set in stunning countryside,  followed by the exquisite Sandon Hall following the service. Both locations were simply stunning, and having a beautiful spring day certainly helped to show the best of them.

As you can see, stunning locations for a simply stunning couple.

Bridal Model Shoot :: Assynt House

Well, it’s been a while since the last post… I’ve been meaning to post regularly, and will start doing so very soon. I’ll be sharing a large amount of work from various shoots and weddings that I have been involved with, and even some where I assisted/second shot for other photographers.

Today’s offering is from a short break I took up in Scotland, I stayed with my good friend and talented photographer, Lynne Kennedy, who lives in a tiny village near to Kyle of Lochalsh. Whilst visiting I assisted Lynne on two weddings, and we also arranged a bridal shoot at Assynt House along with Margaret Mcatier, another friend and wedding photographer.  The idea was simple, take a model to Assynt House and shoot lots of stunning images…

Here are the results:

Assynt House is a stunning bespoke venue, who host a limited number of weddings per year. It is truly an exclusive boutique venue, I recommend visiting their site to find out more.

Karl & Michelle: The Wedding

I photographed Karl & Michelle earlier this year for the e-session at Castle Combe race circuit, where they first met. Well, in July it was their wedding day at the Four Pillars Hotel in Oxford. Michelle was the picture of calm when I arrived, everything was organised and she was hours ahead of schedule. Karl, I believe, was quite the opposite and was nervously excited for the whole day.

It’s all about the shoes, and what better than a stunning pair of Jimmy Choo’s, I could tell Michelle was in love with them by the way she got excited when talking about them.

As both of them are somewhat of motorheads, they chose a trio of classic Morris Minors for the bridal cars, all in immaculate condition and beautiful to look at, they were so good I had to include them in the group shots as well…

Throughout the day it was clear that the couple were so in love with each other, often catching a quick glance at each other, followed by a coy smile. It was a pleasure to be part of their day.

I love shooting a wedding when the couple value the photography so much, and Karl & Michelle were more than happy to pose for countless images throughout the day, a few of which are above. They were great sports and huge fun to work with, I spent more time laughing and joking with them I’m surprised that all the shots didn’t have them laughing.

I also had my good friend and superb photographer James Burns shooting with me, he captured a great selection of candid and documentary images. He also does a good line in camping it up to help with the laughter and makes a good portable lighting stand when required. :o )

Finally, just before we left the band started up, playing the song for the first dance and carrying on into the night. We could hear them still going as we left at the end of the night.

Thanks guys for being such a wonderful and fun couple, I wish you both all the best for your future married life.
